Welcome to

Worship

Our worship services begin on Sundays at 10:45 am

in our sanctuary and online. Our historic sanctuary has several entrances. Many worshippers enter through the front doors along Frankfort Ave. The most accessible entrance is located at our Fellowship Hall parking lot, accessed through the alley we share with our neighbors, St. Mark’s Espicopal Church. Some worshippers also enter through our Birchwood Avenue entrance.

No matter which entrance you use, know that you and your desires, questions, doubts, hopes, and dreams will be welcome in worship at Crescent Hill.

Encountering God's love

Redemption and renewal

Our worship services invite us to experience the all-encompassing love of God at work in our lives. Each week, we prayerfully prepare our service, trusting that the Holy Spirit will meet us, provoke us, and renew us in the redemptive love of Jesus Christ.

What does a service at Crescent Hill look like?

On most Sundays, our choir leads us in singing together. We read scripture together. We pray together. On the first Sunday of the month, we gather around the Communion table.
For those who are hearing impaired, an American Sign Language Interpreter is present at the front of the Sanctuary and is visible on our live-stream.
On most Sundays, one of our Co-Pastors preach a message from a biblical text. Our church has a storied history of gifted preaching that doesn’t shy away from the messiness of the scriptures and the church baggage that so many of us carry.

When we preach, we’re trusting

that God will speak through us to offer hope in a chaotic world.

wounds from traumatic religious experiences will be healed.

that the love of Jesus will be heard, felt, and practiced.

As a community of open-minded “thinkers”,we also believe preachers aren’t the “final” interpreters of any biblical text. In other words, you have the freedom to disagree with a sermon, or walk away with a different interpretation. God can handle that, and so can we.

Children in Worship

Creating space for all ages

Children are welcome to remain with you during the worship service. Worship isn’t just for those who can sit quietly for an hour. It is for everyone, even those who are little and loud. Your kids are never too noisy for church.

However, many families prefer for their children to move freely and learn through age appropriate lessons and developmentally targeted activities in our children’s Sunday School. Bible stories, activities, songs, and snacks are offered for all children birth through 5th grade.

Special Services

March is Baptist Women in Ministry Advocacy Month. Crescent Hill Baptist Church has been a proud supporter of women in ministry for over 50 years and was one of the first Baptist churches to ordain women as deacons. Today, we continue to advocate for the ordination of women in churches throughout all denominations. Particularly in March, we focus on women in our worship services by highlighting women’s stories in the Bible, utilizing scripture and prayers written by women, featuring hymns written by women and, empowering the women in our congregation to help lead us in worship.

We observe the centuries old tradition of remembering our loved ones on All Saints Day, the first Sunday in November. During our All Saints service, we honor those in our church who have passed away in the pervious year. We also remember and give thanks to the other saints who have passed in years prior. Grief is always difficult, but it is our hope that through worship and gathering in community we will be strengthened for the journey ahead.

The Lessons and Carols service aims to offer a unique telling of a Biblical story or theme primarily through musical arrangements performed by our choir and special guest musicians. The Lessons and Carols service is filled with both new and familiar music to help carry the theme of the service.

We begin the season of Advent with our Celebration of the Green service. This service leads us in worship through classic Christmas tunes and guided storytelling. This is also the time where the congregation joins in decorating the trees in our Sanctuary with Chrismons and other symbols of faith.
